Giant inflatable velvet heart in Changzhou

What does the post about the giant Changzhou heart show?

A red inflatable heart with a velvety surface standing on a plaza, crossed by a blue strap, with a crane arm above it.

The caption describes a heart 28 m tall, covering 1,600 m², made of velvet fabric, inflated by a 3 kW blower and assembled on site.

It does not say that the workshop built the heart: Digital Inflatables shows it as an example of monumental inflatables for public space and contemporary art.

What is Changzhou Culture Plaza?

A cultural complex in Changzhou, designed by the gmp practice and opened in 2020, with a library, museums and art galleries.

The complex also has a covered space for public events, which suits large temporary installations.

How is a monumental inflatable installed on a public square?

A blower keeps it inflated at all times, and straps and guy lines tie it to the ground so it holds in the wind.

A crane can help lift and place the envelope, as the photo shows. For a very large piece, anchoring and wind loads are planned with the venue and the authorities.
